Steering wheel button control adapter for Audi / Seat / Škoda / VW

Keep the original radio steering wheel control functions when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket unit. Depending on vehicle equipment, available functions and the software of the newly installed radio, some functions may be limited or replaced by others. Compare the shown wiring connectors with the connectors in your vehicle and make sure they match both technically and visually. Check whether one of the listed OEM head units was originally installed. Before final installation, verify vehicle functionality, system settings and correct operation of the steering wheel controls (SWC).

CAN Bus information

Connectors and power:

  • 40-pin Quadlock VAG connector.
  • Wiring for steering wheel control (SWC) – jumper cable.
  • OEM Fakra antenna (female) to DIN/ISO (male).
  • Some Pioneer models from 2022 onward may require an additional cable to a 3.5 mm jack.
  • VW with Dynaudio: +12V Amp Remote on module pin 11 (grey) – verify by measuring with the OEM unit before connecting.
  • T5 / Touareg with OEM amplifier: use an active adapter designed for vehicles with factory amplifiers.

Settings:

  • Check DIP switch settings according to the type of aftermarket radio.
  • CAN Bus activation of OEM sound systems is supported.

Diagnostic LED indication:

  • Blue flashing: searching for CAN Bus.
  • Blue steady: CAN Bus active.
  • Red: +12V ignition active.

Available signals:

  • Pink: +12V ignition (Terminal 15) max. 1.5A.
  • Orange: +12V illumination (Terminal 58) max. 0.1A.
  • White: +12V reverse gear max. 1.5A.
  • Yellow/green, yellow/red: speed pulse signal.
  • Grey: interface – no function.
  • Grey: 40-pin Quadlock pin 11 – +12V Amp Remote for Dynaudio (verify by measurement).

Important additional information

  • Designed for aftermarket radios from Sony, Kenwood, Panasonic, JVC, Pioneer, Blaupunkt, Clarion, Alpine, Zenec, XZent and others that support SWC input.
  • To fully activate the adapter, order the brand-specific connection cable for your radio.

General installation instructions

Verification before installation:

  1. Check all steering wheel control functions and vehicle settings with the original OEM head unit installed.
  2. Disconnect the original radio (OEM HU) with the ignition off.
  3. Check all interface connections to ensure they are correctly connected – with power off.

Connection and wiring sequence:

  1. Check the interface settings and hardware configuration – with power off.
  2. Check the wiring configuration of the harness to the head unit – with power off.
  3. Connect the harness to the head unit according to the aftermarket unit manual.
  4. Connect other wires according to the device manual.
  5. Integrate the entire installation with the vehicle – connect the main power last.
  6. Perform software configuration of the interface according to the product description or manual.
  7. Configure the aftermarket head unit (steering wheel control, camera, handsfree, antenna power, etc.).
  8. Perform a functional test of the steering wheel controls and communication with the vehicle.

Changing the interface configuration and head unit harness:

  • Make any changes with power off.
  • Repeat steps 5 to 8 listed above.

If the interface or vehicle system malfunctions:

  • Reinstall the original OEM head unit.
  • Start the original unit.
  • Initiate CAN Bus shutdown.
  • Check the hardware configuration of the interface.
  • After CAN Bus shutdown, repeat steps 5 and 6 listed above.

When modifying wiring or harnesses:

  • Wiring and modifications must be performed only by professionally trained personnel.
  • All changes must be verified for manufacturer approval or effects on vehicle warranty before connection.
  • All modifications must be verified by measurement and compared with the vehicle wiring diagram before connection.
  • Modifications are carried out at your own risk and without warranty for functionality.
  • Modifications are at your own risk, with no guarantee against damage to the vehicle, device or interface.
  • Modifying pre-installed harnesses may void the product warranty.
