Ford Tourneo Custom - noise reduction and new sound system with DSP processor
Soundproofing of a Ford Tourneo Custom and an audio installation focused on sound quality with measurement of the speakers' frequency response and subsequent tuning in the DSP processor program. The Ford Tourneo is already a regular at our workshop so we know almost every screw of this body by heart. The main reason is the insufficient, or rather completely missing, factory sound insulation and the very poor factory audio. Bare metal without any protection causes strong vibrations and noise easily penetrates the interior from almost every area of the vehicle. The most pronounced is, as usual, tire noise penetrating mainly through the floor and wheel arches and, due to the body shape, also aerodynamic and surrounding road noise. The owner of this vehicle wanted the most effective soundproofing we offer, so we chose our Expert Plus package, in which we work with professional Comfortmat materials from the top Expert range. We soundproofed all the crucial areas of the vehicle: front, rear and fifth doors, floor, luggage compartment, roof, front and rear wheel arches from the inside and the hood. We also installed new audio equipment focused on high sound quality. Lately, for advanced installations, the first choice for us has been the combination of products from high-end manufacturers ESB Audio and Zapco, and this time was no different. For the front doors we chose component speakers from ESB Audio’s Tremila line, which we connected in active mode to an analog amplifier with an integrated Zapco DSP processor. Using a calibrated microphone we measured the frequency response of all speakers and set spatial equalizer correction in the DSP processor program to obtain a linear frequency curve of the speakers. We then set time delays, filters, levels, crossovers and other options that the DSP processor allows. The result of the installation is highly accurate sound tailored to the specific vehicle and listener. It also changes the perception of music, as the goal of such a system is to move the soundstage forward so you can enjoy the feeling of sitting at a live concert directly in front of the performer. Our basic Standard soundproofing includes soundproofing of all important areas of the car, focusing not only on high efficiency, but also at an affordable price. In particular, we are dedicated to soundproofing the hood, front and rear doors, trunk, floor and front and rear wheel arches from the inside. We use Comfortmat anti-vibration and sound-insulating materials, especially from the Standard model series, thanks to which we are able to reduce the price to a lower level. However, we apply the same materials as in the Premium soundproofing package to the areas most affected by noise. Thanks to this, our basic package already enables highly effective noise reduction, which at the given price has no equivalent on our market.

The Standard Light sound deadening package is intended for all customers who require a very effective sound deadening of the car, but taking into account the low weight of the materials. We soundproof the same areas as the Standard package, i.e. the hood, front and rear doors, floor, trunk and front and rear wheel arches. However, we use different materials that excel in light weight while maintaining high efficiency. In the first and second layers of noise reduction, we apply lightweight anti-vibration and sound-insulating materials, which allow for 30 percent lower weight and at the same time only slightly lower efficiency than with the Standard package. Compared to our most efficient Expert and Expert Plus packages, this is a weight reduction of up to 50 percent.

Our most popular Premium sound deadening package includes almost complete vehicle sound deadening in addition to the roof. And as the name of the package suggests, we work exclusively with top-quality Comfortmat materials from the Premium model range, and in the areas most affected by noise and vibration, we use materials from the top Expert range. Specifically, as part of this package, we soundproof the hood, front and rear doors, floor, luggage compartment, front and rear wheel arches from the inside and the fifth door. Compared to the Standard package, we therefore not only choose significantly more effective anti-vibration and sound-insulating materials, but also soundproof the fifth door. The result is a rapid reduction in noise and an acceptable weight of the materials.

The Expert sound deadening package already includes complete vehicle sound deadening. Specifically, as part of this package, we focus on the hood, roof, torpedo, front, rear and fifth doors, floor, luggage compartment and on the front and rear wheel arches from the inside of the car. We choose the same anti-vibration and soundproofing materials as with the Premium sound deadening package, but we also pay attention to the roof and the torpedo. This will enable comprehensive soundproofing without the risk of increased noise in places where additional sound insulation has not been carried out. With the Expert soundproofing package, you get not only rapid noise reduction, but also thermal insulation, and is therefore the most recommended solution if the car is not equipped with a sunroof or a panoramic roof.
