How to Care for Polishing Pads
- Caring for polishing pads is crucial for their longevity and future polishing capabilities.
- During use, the temperature of the pad is very important for its lifespan as it can heat up significantly while polishing paint.
- If you polish paint for an extended period and frequently overheat the pad, you significantly shorten its lifespan.
- Therefore, monitor the temperature and if the pad is overheated, let it cool down for a while.
- Both the foam and the adhesive of the pad suffer at high temperatures.
- The polishing pad needs to be cleaned frequently during the polishing process; otherwise, it stops being effective.
- When the pad is clogged with polishing paste, it's time to address it.
- You can use a medium-soft brush and set the polisher to lower speeds to remove old paste from the pad.
- Be careful not to throw removed paste onto the polished paint.
- If you have an air compressor, you can use it to blow out the pad while the polisher is running.
- After successful machine polishing, it's important to prepare the pad for future use.
- We recommend washing the pad in a washing machine at 40°C using a detergent suitable for microfiber.
- Never wash pads together with towels or cloths!
- Do not tumble dry the pads; let them air dry on a drying towel with the polishing side down.
- If a washing machine is not available, you can hand wash the pads using an APC cleaner.
- Polishing pads should be stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally in a sealed clean plastic box.
