JBL has launched a lot of new products: we haven't seen this many new products in a long time!

JBL is significantly expanding its product lineup. Ahifi has seen a flood of new products across the entire car audio range.

JBL is a brand that has enjoyed an exceptionally strong reputation in the audio industry since 1946. It was founded by James B. Lansing with the goal of advancing the audio experience, first in movie theaters and later in other areas of audio. JBL is one of the key brands in car audio, particularly in the areas of speakers, subwoofers, and amplifiers, where it builds on a distinctive, energetic sound and the easily recognizable “JBL sound.” This is now fully confirmed, as the new products cover virtually the entire portfolio — from coaxial and component speakers to tweeters, amplifiers, active bass systems, and subwoofers in enclosures.

JBL CLUB

The JBL Club series is the most extensive and versatile line-up among the latest releases. The JBL Club series of speakers features a larger magnet and higher power handling capacity compared to competitors in the same price range, while Club amplifiers stand out for their compact chassis, easy installation, and the ability to fine-tune sound using crossovers and the Bass Boost function. In practice, this is exactly the series from which customers can build both a simple upgrade to a stock audio system and a decently powerful system with an amplifier and a subwoofer.

There is a truly wide selection of small and medium-sized coaxial speakers. New additions include the JBL CLUB 322F with an 87 mm diameter and 25 W RMS power, the JBL CLUB 422F with a 100 mm diameter and 35 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 522F with a 130 mm diameter and 45 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 622 with a 165 mm diameter and 60 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 6422F in a 4 × 6" format with 40 W RMS, and the JBL CLUB 8622F in a 6 × 8" format with 60 W RMS. These models make sense primarily when a customer is looking for a direct replacement for stock speakers based on mounting dimensions but doesn’t want to sacrifice sensitivity and dynamic performance.

Other new Club models follow in the same line: The JBL CLUB 54F offers 130 mm and 45 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 644F features a 4 × 6" format and 40 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 34F has a diameter of 87 mm and 25 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 44F has a diameter of 100 mm and 35 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 64 features a 165 mm diameter and 60 W RMS, the JBL CLUB 864F a 6 × 8" format and 60 W RMS, while the larger oval models, the JBL CLUB 9632 and JBL CLUB 964M, feature a 6 × 9" size and 85 W RMS. It is precisely this range of sizes that is a major strength, as it allows anyone to easily choose a model for a specific vehicle without having to make difficult compromises.

For those interested in a better stereo image and clearer sound reproduction, the Club series also offers component speaker sets and tweeters. The JBL CLUB 602 CTP are 165 mm component speakers with 70 W RMS and a sensitivity of 92 dB; the JBL CLUB 64C offer 160 mm and 70 W RMS, while the JBL CLUB 64 CTP offer 165 mm and 70 W RMS. Separate tweeters are represented by the JBL CLUB 3412T and JBL CLUB 194T, both with a 19 mm dome and 50 W RMS power. These are products for customers who don’t just want “something that plays,” but want to get better detail, spatiality, and more precise treble reproduction from their car.

But the JBL Club series doesn’t stop at speakers. New additions include the JBL CLUB A600 amplifiers—a mono model with 350/600 W RMS at 4/2 Ω—and the JBL CLUB A754—a 4-channel model with 4 × 75 W RMS at 4 Ω, the JBL CLUB A5055—a 5-channel model with a configuration of 4 × 50 + 1 × 320 W RMS at 4 Ω—and the JBL CLUB A1000—a powerful mono amplifier with 600 / 1000 W RMS at 4 / 2 Ω. This is a clear signal for more demanding customers who want to build a more active system, boost speaker power, or drive a standalone subwoofer without compromise.

The bass section of the Club series is also a standout feature of the new lineup. The JBL CLUB 102 is a 10" subwoofer with 350 W RMS power, while the JBL CLUB 122 is a 12" version with 400 W RMS; both models support 2 or 4 Ω. For customers looking for a complete solution, there’s the JBL CLUB 1000P, a 10" subwoofer in an enclosure with 350 W RMS, and the JBL CLUB 1200P, a 12" enclosure with 400 W RMS. The Club series at Ahifi thus covers practically everything: door speakers, tweeters, amplification, and complete bass systems.

JBL STADIUM

The JBL Stadium series is stepping up its game, clearly targeting customers who want higher-quality materials and a more ambitious sound. JBL highlights the Stadium’s Plus One™ fiberglass woofers for high performance and tight bass, as well as fabric edge-driven tweeters that extend up to 40 kHz. This philosophy is reflected across all five models in the new lineup.

The foundation is provided by the JBL STADIUM 52F, a 130mm coaxial speaker with 60 W RMS and a mounting depth of 62 mm, and the JBL STADIUM 62F, a 165mm coaxial speaker with 85 W RMS and a depth of 72 mm. Moving up a notch are the JBL STADIUM 52CF component sets with a 130 mm diameter, 80 W RMS power, and a depth of 57 mm, and the JBL STADIUM 62CF with a 165 mm diameter, 110 W RMS power, and a depth of 54 mm. Another product is the JBL STADIUM 192T, a standalone 19 mm tweeter with 50 W RMS. It is clear that this series is designed for customers who want a noticeable improvement in detail, dynamics, and the overall quality of sound reproduction.

JBL STAGE GT Amplifiers

The Stage GT series is JBL’s latest offering for customers who prefer a standalone amplifier without unnecessarily complicating the installation. For the GT60041 model, JBL specifically highlights a compact 4-channel Class D amplifier with the ability to fine-tune the system via HPF, LPF, and Bass EQ, which accurately describes the rest of this system as well.

First up is the JBL STAGE GT50011 amplifier—a mono amplifier with 300/500 W RMS at 4/2 Ω—followed by the JBL STAGE GT60041, a 4-channel amplifier with 4 × 60 W RMS at 4 Ω, the JBL STAGE GT80021—a 2-channel amplifier with 2 × 80 W RMS at 4 Ω and up to 1 × 260 W RMS in bridge mode—and the JBL STAGE GT9004—a 4-channel amplifier with 4 × 90 W RMS at 4 Ω and a high-level input. This quartet makes sense both for basic amplification of door speakers and for building a system with a separate subwoofer channel.

JBL BASSPRO

BassPro is exactly the series customers turn to when they want to quickly and elegantly add bass to their car without building a large custom system. These are active subwoofers capable of delivering deep bass in a compact format; the BassPro 12 features a 150W amplifier and a Slipstream port, while the BassPro Nano combines small dimensions with clean, tight bass.

The BassPro series is well-represented in the new arrivals. The JBL BASSPRO 8 is an active 8" subwoofer with 100 W RMS and a Class D amplifier, while the JBL BASSPRO 12 is an active 12" model with 150 W RMS. The JBL BASSPRO NANO features a 6" × 8" driver and 100 W RMS, making it ideal for cars with limited space. The JBL BASSPRO LITE is an active under-seat model with a 7" driver and 100 W RMS; the JBL BASSPRO 12T adds a tube design with a 12" driver and 150 W RMS; and the JBL BASSPRO GO is a portable active subwoofer with 100 W RMS. This is a very powerful product lineup for customers who want to add bass quickly, cleanly, and without a complicated enclosure design.

JBL CONCERT

The Concert series is represented in the latest lineup by a pair of amplifiers and offers a very appealing option for customers looking to upgrade from stock audio systems to more robust speaker amplification. The new lineup includes the JBL CONCERT A652, a 2-channel amplifier with 2 × 65 W RMS at 4 Ω and up to 1 × 170 W RMS in bridge mode, and the JBL CONCERT A704, a 4-channel amplifier with 4 × 70 W RMS at 4 Ω and up to 2 × 180 W RMS in bridge mode . In practical terms, this means the Concert is suitable for both simple front-door sound systems and smaller complete setups with four speakers or a speaker-plus-subwoofer combination.

JBL STAGE2 GEN2

The Stage2 Gen2 series is designed for those who want a more affordable yet still very solid upgrade. The JBL Stage2 series brings the "concert-quality" JBL experience to your car at an affordable price, and is designed to fit seamlessly into most factory mounting holes without requiring major modifications.

New additions include the JBL STAGE2 GEN2 65F and JBL STAGE2 GEN2 65M, both 165mm coaxial speakers with 60 W RMS, 4 Ω, and a sensitivity of 90 dB. Also available are the JBL STAGE2 GEN2 65CF, a 165mm component set with 90 W RMS, and the JBL STAGE2 GEN2 965M, a 6 × 9" coaxial speaker with 70 W RMS and a sensitivity of 92 dB. This quartet makes sense mainly for customers who want a definite step up from the series but are still watching their budget and want simple installation.

JBL STAGE

The JBL Stage series primarily focuses on bass. With its Stage subwoofers, JBL emphasizes high power output, low distortion, and availability in three standard sizes—8", 10", and 12"—so you can easily choose the right one based on your car's interior space and the desired bass output.

Specifically, the new models include the JBL STAGE 82, an 8" subwoofer with 200 W RMS and 4 Ω impedance, the JBL STAGE 102, a 10" model with 225 W RMS and 4 Ω, the JBL STAGE 122, a 12" subwoofer with 250 W RMS and 4 Ω, and the JBL STAGE 122D, a 12" variant with 250 W RMS and switchable impedance of 2 / 4 Ω. For customers looking for a ready-made solution, there is also the JBL STAGE 1200D, a dual 12" subwoofer in an enclosure with 500 W RMS power and 2 Ω impedance. This series is ideal for those who want more bass at a reasonable price and want to choose from a standalone driver to a complete speaker enclosure.

JBL STAGE3

The Stage3 is a speaker series designed for those who want a noticeably more modern and energetic upgrade for their car doors. JBL describes it as a series that combines patented technologies, development expertise, and the legacy of JBL Pro Sound into a single, powerful product line focused on performance and easy installation.

This range covers a wide variety of sizes. The JBL STAGE3 427 are 100mm coaxial speakers with 30 W RMS, the JBL STAGE3 6427 are 4 × 6" speakers with 35 W RMS, the JBL STAGE3 527 are 130mm coaxial speakers with 40 W RMS, the JBL STAGE3 627 are 165mm coaxials with 40 W RMS, the JBL STAGE3 8627 is a 6 × 8" model with 50 W RMS, and the JBL STAGE3 9637 are 6 × 9" ovals with 75 W RMS. The component line is represented by the JBL STAGE3 607C, 165mm component speakers with 50 W RMS and a mounting depth of 48.5 mm. The Stage3 series is therefore very appealing to customers who want to choose based precisely on the mounting hole size but don’t want to settle for the absolute basics.

Plug & play speakers: a convenient solution, or an unnecessary compromise?

Plug & play speakers are a trend today. Quick swap, no modifications, minimal work – a solution that makes perfect sense at first glance. But this very simplicity hides a fundamental question: is it all just a compromise posing as an ideal upgrade? If we look closer, we find that behind the convenient installation there is usually something that isn’t talked about much. And that something has a decisive impact on the resulting sound.

Typical plug and play speakers – integrated mounting pads and the same fittings and connectors as the factory speakers ensure convenient installation.

What exactly are plug & play speakers?

Plug & play speakers are designed specifically for a particular car model. They are not universal speakers, but a solution that matches the original fitting both mechanically and connector-wise. They have a specific basket shape, integrated mounting points and connectors compatible with the factory wiring. They often also respect the constraints of the given space, such as mounting depth or atypical fittings that commonly appear in modern cars.

The main goal is therefore to simplify installation as much as possible. The original speaker is simply removed from the car and replaced with the new one without any modifications. There is no need for adapters, soldering, or mechanical adjustments to the door or dashboard. Everything is designed so that the new speaker fits exactly into the original place and works with the factory wiring.

Thanks to that, this is a solution that even a complete beginner can handle. The swap is quick, clean and practically risk-free. Typically we are talking about tens of minutes of work instead of the hours that more complex installations can take.

And that is their biggest advantage.

So where is the catch?

Developing plug & play speakers is significantly more demanding than developing classic universal speakers. The manufacturer must design a specific basket, fittings, connectors and often adjust dimensions for a particular car. All of this is done for a relatively narrow group of vehicles, so the costs are not spread across large production series. These costs inevitably reflect in the final product price. And because the market price level is fixed, savings are made elsewhere – typically on materials and the speaker’s construction itself. In other words, part of the budget is not spent on sound but on the fact that the speaker fits exactly.

The result is that, in the same price category, plug & play speakers are in most cases sonically inferior to classic universal models. With universal models the manufacturer can invest the maximum into the driver itself – better materials, a stronger motor, more sophisticated crossovers. And that shows in the final performance.

A typical example of a plug & play solution are the speakers in the first picture – Focal IS VW 165 intended for Volkswagen vehicles, which offer everything you need for a quick and trouble-free installation. A mounting pad is integrated into the midbass, the speaker has the same shape and fittings as the factory one and the same applies to the tweeter. The tweeter is also equipped with adhesive tape for easy mounting. The package also includes connector adapters for the factory wiring.

When we look more closely at these speakers, their limits start to appear. There is only a plastic midbass basket, a tweeter with a rather aggressive aluminum dome, or very simple frequency crossovers integrated directly on the cable. A look at the technical parameters also reveals a resonant frequency exceeding 77 Hz, which is relatively high for a midbass and indicates a limited potential in the lower frequencies. All of these are solutions subordinated primarily to easy installation and lower costs.

This is not to say that these are bad speakers. Compared to the stock system they represent a significant improvement. However, for a price approaching 5,000 CZK you can get incomparably higher-quality universal speakers. And that difference is simply audible in the final sound.

The catch is therefore not that plug & play solutions are bad. The catch is that for the same price, in the vast majority of cases, there is better sound.

Classic speakers have standard dimensions and no specific accessories. Common mounting pads and mounting hardware are used for installation.

So who are plug & play speakers sensible for?

Plug & play speakers are an ideal product for users who want to improve their car audio themselves. If you don’t want to deal with technical details, have no installation experience, or simply want a quick and clean solution, it is a very practical choice. The swap is intuitive, without risk of damaging the car, and the result is usually noticeably better than the factory sound. Often significantly so.

The problem arises when this solution becomes the standard even where it shouldn’t. If a workshop that presents itself as an audio specialist uses only plug & play speakers, it is not a sign of advancement but of simplifying the work. The installation is quick, no modifications are required, no soldering, no wiring work. In other words – minimum time, minimum effort.

However, a professional’s job should not be to look for the easiest path. A professional’s job should be to find the best possible solution for the specific car and the specific customer.

And that in most cases means taking the more complicated route – using higher-quality universal speakers, designing proper mounts, modifying the installation and spending time on details that have a real impact on the final sound. Because that is where the fundamental difference between merely improving the original system and creating a truly high-quality audio system lies.

Specific situation: BMW, Mercedes and others

There are, however, vehicles where plug & play speakers are not just a matter of convenience but practically the only sensible solution. Typically this is the premium segment like BMW or Mercedes, where the speakers are very specifically constructed – they have atypical dimensions, non-standard fittings, minimal mounting depth or are part of more complex assemblies, such as subwoofers under the seats.

In such cases, using classic universal speakers is significantly more complicated. It requires making adapters, modifying mounts, or a complete reworking of the installation. Yes, that is an option – but it is more time-consuming and costly and does not always make sense.

That is why a quality plug & play system finds its justification here not only for DIY swaps but also from the perspective of professional installation. Fortunately, there are manufacturers who can offer top quality even in a plug and play design without any compromises. A typical example is Morel, whose plug & play systems are derived from their classic model ranges and are practically identical in sound. In such a case it is no longer a “cheap and simple solution” but a full-fledged upgrade with a corresponding price tag. Besides that, there are more affordable options from brands like Audison, Ground Zero, Gladen and many others that target lower price levels but still represent a substantial step up from the factory sound.

Advanced plug and play speakers by Morel for BMW vehicles with adapted shape and fittings. And typically the top-tier sound of this manufacturer.

So are plug & play speakers worth it?

Yes – but only when you know exactly why you are choosing them.

If you are looking for easy installation, don’t want to deal with technical details and your goal is a quick improvement over the factory sound, plug & play makes sense. The benefit compared to the factory setup is often significant and the installation comfort is unrivaled.

At the moment when sound quality is the priority, you need to look at the choice differently. In most cases, classic universal speakers offer better materials, construction and ultimately sound for the same price. Only at the cost of a more complicated installation.

So plug & play is certainly not a bad solution. But it is a solution that puts simplicity first.

If sound is your priority, our installation workshop is available – we won’t shy away from any solution and always look for the path to the best possible result.
