20 years of Ahifi: Morel – two audio worlds, one philosophy of sound

With this article we conclude our series marking 20 years since the founding of Ahifi, in which we look back at the brands that significantly influenced our journey. For the finale we have left Morel, the Israeli manufacturer that, like us, is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, albeit on an even more impressive scale. This year marks 50 years since the brand's founding, and it still ranks among the world leaders not only in car audio but also in home high-end audio. And we at Ahifi are proud that Morel is part of our portfolio, where it plays an unmistakable role.

About the Morel brand

The Morel brand was founded in 1975 when Meir Mordechai started it as a personal project rooted in a deep love of music and a lifelong effort to create a loudspeaker that could capture its magic as naturally as possible. Mordechai viewed loudspeakers similarly to musical instruments – many can produce sound, but few can truly engage the listener, draw them in, and convey emotion. This idea became the foundation of Morel's philosophy; the name, which can easily be confused with the namesake mushroom morel (Czech: smrž), actually originated from the original designation Mordechai Electro-acoustics.

For Morel, the path to exceptional sound has never been just a matter of technology or industrial production. According to Morel, the human factor is essential to achieve a truly outstanding listening experience. Each product is therefore hand-assembled in Israel and subsequently subjected to extensive testing that includes seven different quality checks. This ensures that every loudspeaker meets the highest standards the brand has set for itself.

This human approach is complemented by a range of proprietary technologies and patents that Morel has long relied on. A typical example is EVC technology, meaning significantly larger voice coils that allow better cooling, higher power reserves, and stable driver behavior even at higher volumes. Acoustic structures ASW also play an important role – they suppress standing waves inside the driver and contribute to a cleaner, more balanced performance without unwanted resonances. For tweeters, Acuflex technology is typical: a special damping layer applied to soft domes that ensures a smooth frequency response and long-term comfortable listening without fatigue. Also noteworthy are the characteristic protective grilles in the shape of a lotus flower, which Morel introduced among the first. These not only protect the drivers but also minimize unwanted acoustic effects that are a common issue with regular grilles.

The personal know-how and many years of experience of the Morel team, gained over decades of working with sound and continuous experimentation, are reflected in every product. It is not just about individual technical solutions, but about a feel for detail, consistency, and the ability to see a loudspeaker as a whole. It is precisely the combination of in-house development, handcrafting, and the human approach that allows Morel to consistently offer a sound that differs from other manufacturers and does not age with each new generation.

Morel's exclusivity, however, is not expressed through sound alone. Design and workmanship of individual products play an equally prominent role. Morel has an unmistakable design signature that is timeless, functional, and not subject to fashion trends. The workmanship is, without exaggeration, at an extraordinary level and ranks among the best you can find in the field of loudspeakers. The precision of details, the quality of materials, and the overall impression of the execution are things you no longer commonly see with many manufacturers today. The handmade "Made in Israel" production and emphasis on every detail are simply noticeable.

Morel and Ahifi - not just a professional but also a personal relationship

This time I'll depart from the traditional style and allow myself to write this paragraph in a more personal tone. My affection and respect for the Morel brand began to form many years ago. Like many others, I connected my early car audio experiences with brands that were affordable and popular at the time. It will probably not be surprising that my first setup was the classic German Magnat, followed by then-more-advanced players such as Emphaser, Phase Linear, Rodek, or Focal. Each of these brands shaped my musical taste in some way, but the real turning point came in 2007 when I got my hands on the until-then completely unknown to me Morel Hybrid Ovation 6 speakers, the predecessor of today's fifth generation of the popular Hybrid line. Together with the Morel Ultimo subwoofer and Genesis amplifiers, this setup fundamentally changed my perception of music. I gradually moved away from powerful SPL systems toward sound quality, the direction that clearly dominates our installations at Ahifi today.

Since then, I have used Morel speakers exclusively in my cars, and that remains true today. Morel thus influenced not only my personal musical preferences but over time also my professional ones. The core has stayed the same – trust in the brand, respect for its philosophy, and joy from every well-built system. In 2019 Ahifi became the exclusive importer of Morel for the Czech Republic, which I am truly proud of. Not only for the reasons above, but also because Morel is a brand whose sound, values, and interpersonal relations we can rely on long-term. That is certainly not a given today.

However, cooperation with Morel is not always the easiest path. Hand production in Israel brings longer delivery times than the market is used to today, and the logistics of air transport from Israel are among the most expensive. To be able to offer customers the availability they expect from us, we have to hold significantly larger stock reserves than would be "convenient" from a business point of view. Nevertheless, we long-term honor the manufacturer's recommended prices, and Morel remains the number one brand in our workshop when it comes to advanced audio installations. Precisely because quality and the resulting sound matter most to us.

On the border of two worlds: home and car audio

As a manufacturer, Morel naturally operates in two worlds – home and car audio. In both segments it has long been among the respected and successful manufacturers of global stature.

In the field of home audio, Morel has an exceptionally strong reputation. Anyone who is even slightly interested in high-end loudspeaker systems probably knows Fat Lady – the iconic and acclaimed flagship of the brand, which has become a symbol of how far Morel can push sound, construction, and design. Alongside it stand other prominent product lines such as Sopran, Avyra, or SoundSpot, which rank among the top in their segments and regularly collect expert awards and listener recognition. This year the new portable speaker Morel Biggie also attracted a lot of attention. It clearly showed that the brand's philosophy works beyond the classic hi-fi environment and received the EISA award as the best portable speaker of the 2024/2025 season. We will certainly hear more about the Biggie, and we are happy that you can look forward to it in Ahifi's offering next year.

The car audio division naturally builds on these experiences and technologies. An interesting fact is that much of the development, patents, and design solutions are shared with home audio. It is not uncommon to find Morel car speakers featuring the famous 3-layer carbon midwoofer cones or tweeters with Acuflex domes that have been established in Morel Home's best drivers. The car audio division is therefore by no means just a portfolio add-on but a full-fledged sector where sound is always the top priority. After all, this is evidenced by this year's EISA award for the Morel Supremo 63 Special Edition speakers, which were chosen as the best high-end car system for 2025/2026.

Product portfolio

Morel Car Audio products are today divided into four main ranges – Resolution, Reference, Performance, and Integration. Each range has its clear focus, but they all share natural sound, musicality, and the philosophy on which Morel has built for decades. Below we will look at the ones we find most interesting.

Resolution

The flagship of Morel Car Audio intended for absolutely uncompromising installations. The Resolution line includes the reference Supremo speakers and Ultimo subwoofers, which rank among the best you can get in car audio.

  • Morel Supremo 63 Special Edition - a 3-way system for the brand's 50th anniversary. This year's EISA winner as the best high-end car system of the 2025/2026 season. The best from Morel and also the most expensive speakers in our offering.
  • Morel Ultimo Pro - a top Ultimo subwoofer in the latest generation, musical sound, enormous power available in three variants.

Reference

The lineup that made Morel famous and still forms the heart of the offering. Here you will find the already legendary Hybrid, Elate, or Virtus speakers, which combine first-rate sound, advanced technology, precise workmanship, and wide usability. All ranges include two-way and three-way sets in several sizes and most components are available separately.

  • Morel Elate Carbon Pro 63A - a first-class three-way system, triple carbon cone, tweeters made of transparent silk. The best after the Supremo.
  • Morel Hybrid 62 - perhaps the most well-known line and the most frequently installed in our workshop. An affordable entry into the world of Morel sound.
  • Morel Virtus Nano Carbon 63 - a technological marvel with a midwoofer mounting depth of just 17 mm. Yet with no compromise on the bass department.
  • Morel Virtus 62 - a more affordable range with easy integration thanks to high sensitivity, reduced impedance, and compact dimensions.
  • Morel Ultimo PS124D - a flat subwoofer with excellent sound, low installation depth, and minimal enclosure volume. EISA Winner!

Performance

The long-time best-selling line with the Maximo Ultra, Tempo Ultra, or the new Sensus speakers. Affordable versions, perfect workmanship, and above all the typical Morel sound in a cheaper package. Ideal for the first experience with the Morel brand.

  • Morel Sensus 62 - the newest addition to the Performance line with design and technologies from higher ranges.
  • Morel Tempo Ultra 602 - a long-standing and popular mainstay among Morel speakers. Thanks to the new Sensus series now more affordable.
  • Morel Maximo Ultra 602HE - the best-selling Morel speakers and, from our perspective, generally the best choice for connection to factory radios.
  • Morel Kinetic KS104 - another newcomer replacing the legendary Primo subwoofer line. Above-standard sound at an affordable price.

Integration

Morel decided to leave other manufacturers far behind with OEM speakers for specific car models. The Integration series speakers are not for everyone, not cheap, but they offer everything typical of Morel. No compromises on sound quality. And with a clever reduction system for all modern BMW and Marcedes-Benz cars. Other automakers like Porsche, Audi, etc. coming soon.

  • Morel IR-BMW42 - speakers for BMW cars from the higher Integration Reference series. Simply the best on the market for BMW.
  • Morel IP-BMW42 - a lower Integration Performance range also for BMW at a more accessible price.
  • Morel IP-BMWSUB82 - BMW for the third time, this time uniquely sounding bass speakers under the seats.
  • Morel IR-MBZ42 - the Reference series for Mercedes-Benz. The same sound as for BMW with reductions for all Mercedes models.
  • Morel IP-UNI82 - universal flat speakers with an inverted neodymium magnet, which enables trouble-free installation.

This text is for us not only the conclusion of the anniversary series but also a reminder of why some brands remain part of our journey in the long term. Morel for us is not just an item in a catalog but a partner with whom we share the same values, approach to sound, and way of working. And that is precisely why Morel has a firm and lasting place in Ahifi's DNA.
