Steering Wheel Control Adapter for BMW and Mini ACV SWC 42XBM004-0

Maintain the original radio control functions from the steering wheel when replacing the original radio with a non-original unit. Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the range of functions, and the software of the non-original unit, some functions may be limited or replaced by others. Compare the displayed connectors of the adapter with the connectors in your vehicle and ensure they match both visually and technically. Check if any of the listed original radios were used in the vehicle. Before final installation, check the vehicle's functions, settings, and steering wheel controls.

  • BMW Series 3 (E46) (07/1998->02/2007) with Business OEM radio, without Professional OEM navigation, and without OEM amplified audio system.
  • BMW Series 5 (E39) (09/2000->05/2004) with Business OEM radio, without Professional OEM navigation, and without OEM amplified audio system.
  • BMW X3 (E83) (02/2004->08/2010) with Business OEM radio, without Professional OEM navigation, and without OEM amplified audio system.
  • BMW X5 (E53) (03/2000->11/2006) with Business OEM radio, without Professional OEM navigation, and without OEM amplified audio system.
  • BMW Z4 (E85) (03/2002->08/2008) with Business OEM radio, without Professional OEM navigation, and without OEM amplified audio system.

I-Bus Information

  • Connection: 40-pin BMW Quadlock connector.
  • Steering wheel control output: 3.5 mm jack / free wire (depending on the type of non-original unit).
  • If you are unsure of the BMW connector type, use the cable 42xbm00c (includes 17-pin and 40-pin Quadlock harness).
  • Designed for cars with Business OEM unit (without Professional OEM navigation) and without OEM sound system (DSP/Harman Kardon).
  • Recommended to remove OEM accessories: CD changer / TV tuner / phone module.
  • Set DIP switches according to the brand of the non-original radio as per BDA.

Important Additional Information

  • * Vehicles with Professional OEM navigation: extension cable Quadlock(f)->Quadlock(m) + antenna 6.5 m: 1024-25-6500-0.
  • ** Vehicles with sound system (not DSP/Harman Kardon): LFB BMW 3er/5er/7er/X3/X5/Z4/Mini Quadlock/Amp -> 42sxbm007 (in preparation).
  • *** Only for Z4 (E85) cars with a soft top.
  • **** Mini (R53) with Harman Kardon OEM audio system: LFB BMW Mini (R50/R52/R53) 2001–2008 iBus Amp Harman Kardon -> 42k-1024-001.
  • A specific connecting cable for the brand of the non-original radio is required for full functionality of the adapter.

General Installation Guidelines

Pre-Installation Verification

  1. Check all control functions and vehicle settings with the original OEM radio.
  2. Remove the OEM unit without power.
  3. Check all interface connections without power.

Connection and Wiring Order

  1. Perform all interface settings and configurations without power.
  2. Check the configuration of the radio connection cable.
  3. Connect the cable according to the aftermarket radio instructions.
  4. Connect other wires according to the device instructions.
  5. Connect the main power supply last.
  6. Perform software configuration of the interface according to the description and BDA.
  7. Configure the aftermarket radio for SWC functions, camera, hands-free, antenna power, etc.
  8. Perform a test of steering wheel control functions and vehicle communication.

Changing Interface Configuration and HU Cable

  • Make changes without power.
  • After changes, proceed according to steps 5–8 above.

In Case of Interface or Vehicle System Malfunction

  • Return the original OEM unit to the vehicle.
  • Turn on the OEM unit.
  • Wait for the CAN Bus to sleep.
  • Check the interface hardware configuration.
  • After CAN Bus sleeps, proceed according to steps 5–8 above.

When Modifying Connections or Wiring

  • Modifications may only be performed by professionally trained personnel.
  • Before connecting, verify compliance with manufacturer requirements and impact on warranty.
  • Before connecting, verify function by measuring and according to the vehicle diagram.
  • Modifications are made at your own risk without guarantee of functionality.
  • Modifications are made without warranty for potential damage to the vehicle, device, or interface.
  • Modifications to pre-installed wiring may void the product warranty.
