How to Care for Polishing Pads
- Caring for polishing pads is crucial for their longevity and future polishing capabilities.
- The temperature of the pad, which can heat up significantly during polishing, is very important for its lifespan.
- If you polish for extended periods and frequently overheat the pad, its lifespan is significantly reduced.
- Monitor the temperature and let the pad cool down if it overheats.
- Both the foam and the adhesive suffer at high temperatures.
- It's essential to clean the polishing pad frequently during the polishing process, or it will become inefficient.
- Once the pad is clogged with polishing paste, it needs attention.
- You can use a medium-soft brush and set the polisher to low speed to brush away the old paste. Hold the brush in your hand and let the polisher rotate the pad.
- Be cautious not to throw the used paste onto the polished car paint during rotary cleaning.
- If you have an air compressor, you can use it to blow the pad clean while the polisher is running.
- After successful machine polishing, the pad should be conditioned for future use.
- We recommend washing the pad in a washing machine at 40°C using a detergent meant for microfiber.
- Never wash pads together with towels or cloths!
- Do not put pads in a dryer; let them air dry on a drying towel with the polishing side down.
- If you don't have access to a washing machine, you can wash pads by hand using an APC cleaner diluted at a 1:6 ratio.
- Polishing pads should be stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally in a closed, clean plastic box.
