Carbon Collective Elixir Salt Remover Concentrate – Road Salt Remover

Salt accelerates corrosion and causes deterioration of undercarriage components and wheel suspension. Elixir Salt Remover neutralizes road salt, helps minimize corrosion and thus extends the life of your vehicle. Elixir Salt Remover is a low-pH foaming pre-wash specially developed to remove granular road salt, sand and inorganic road film. The foaming nature of the cleaner allows longer dwell time, breaking down salt and other contaminants over time, or enables scrubbing with a brush (where required) to further remove embedded deposits. The salt remover is specially designed to remove bonded crystalline salt particles from surfaces that would otherwise not be removed by the normal wash process or by common cleaners. Road salt reacts with organic molecules such as fuel and oil and with other inorganic molecules from the road, creating a film on vehicle surfaces, which is why this targeted salt remover is necessary. While salt can be dissolved in water, bonded grains of salt cannot be easily removed by pressure washing or by hand washing alone; even prolonged soaking in water will remove only a small percentage of bonded salt particles. Elixir should be incorporated into your wash process as a two-step pre-wash phase, especially during the winter period. Lower seals on classic cars become brittle, crack and expose unprotected metal surfaces over time, which is where salt and water cause problems, penetrate cracks and accelerate rusting. Older cars are particularly susceptible as they often lack factory galvanised bodywork.

Dilution

Deep cleaning before applying protection

• Via spray bottle: 150 ml and 850 ml water – pH 4.5
• Via Snow Foam Lance: 200 ml and 800 ml water – pH 6.5

Routine maintenance

• Via spray bottle: 100 ml and 900 ml water – pH 6.0
• Via Snow Foam Lance: 100 ml and 900 ml water – pH 6.7
• Via hose adapter: undiluted – pH 6.5

• 50 ml and 950 ml water = pH 6.1
• 100 ml and 900 ml water = pH 6.0
• 150 ml (spray) and 850 ml water = pH 4.3

Snow foam using a foamer (10 L per minute)

• 50 ml and 950 ml water = pH 7.1
• 100 ml and 900 ml water = pH 6.7
• 150 ml (spray) and 850 ml water = pH 6.6
• 200 ml and 800 ml water = pH 6.5
• 250 ml and 750 ml water = pH 6.3

Via hose applicator

• Undiluted = pH 6.8

Additive to the wash bucket (if this product is mixed with Lusso shampoo it will be diluted in a different ratio).

• 50 ml per 20 L bucket = pH 7
• 100 ml per 20 L bucket = pH 6.75

Low pH is ideal for removing deposits of granular salt and inorganic road film.

How to use

• Wet the bodywork before use.
• Choose the correct dilution ratio.
• When working, use rubber protective gloves.
• For first-time use we recommend a stronger dilution to remove any long-term salt deposits.
• Decide how you will apply: in a spray bottle, using a pressure washer and foam lance, or via a hose adapter.
• Apply Elixir Salt Remover first to remove road salt, inorganic road film and to lift heavy contamination.
• Apply to the lower half of the vehicle, wheel arches and undercarriage.
• Leave to work for 10 minutes, then rinse until the runoff is clear.
• After cleaning the undercarriage can be protected with an underbody wax (for example Bilt Hamber Dynax-UC).
• After pressure washing or rinsing off the Elixir use Ultimus or Ultimus+ snow foam to neutralise any remaining chemicals from step 1, creating an almost neutral rinse-off and removing residual contamination.
• It is important to ensure you also thoroughly clean the undercarriage and its components. Salt build-up is usually more concentrated here and can hide in panel gaps or around underbody parts, accelerating corrosion.
• Elixir Salt Remover Concentrate can be applied in several ways – diluted in a spray, applied using snow foam or via a hose adapter.
• Do not allow Elixir to dry on the surface!
• Work on a cool body and out of direct sunlight!
