Toyota Camry - advanced soundproofing and speaker replacement

The latest-generation Toyota Camry with hybrid drive represents the brand’s flagship sedan for European markets. An elegant car with a quiet and refined engine, excellent fuel consumption and a high level of equipment, it is popular especially among discerning drivers seeking comfort, reliability and technical sophistication. Despite all its positive qualities, the Camry is no exception when it comes to insufficient factory sound insulation. The hybrid layout contributes to quiet operation of the powertrain, but the absence of anti-vibration treatment on the body and weak soundproofing of the chassis and wheels result in aerodynamic and rolling noise, which is especially noticeable on the highway and on uneven roads coming from the wheel arches, sills and the rear of the car.

At the customer’s request we carried out a complete soundproofing in our most effective Expert Plus variant, which we further enhanced at the customer’s request. The Expert Plus program includes the application of at least two layers of top Comfortmat materials from the Premium and Expert ranges, which combine highly effective anti-vibration protection with modern membrane materials to attenuate airborne noise. We soundproofed the entire floor including the rear section, the trunk, the roof, the dashboard, the hood, the front, rear and fifth doors and the wheel arches from the interior side. In the most stressed areas, such as the floor and wheel arches, we used extra-effective anti-vibration material and multi-layer membrane material with high attenuation. Optionally, we extended the soundproofing to the rear and front wheel arches from the exterior side, which further enhances the already significant effect of the interior treatment.

Our four-person team carried out the installation over the course of one working day. The result is a significantly quieter interior that further emphasizes the Camry’s comfort character. According to our measurements and experience with other cars in this class, Comfortmat soundproofing in the Expert Plus variant delivers an average cabin noise reduction of 3.5 to 4 dB, which acoustically corresponds to more than double the noise attenuation compared to the factory condition. In practice the difference is immediately noticeable – especially during long highway journeys or on poor road surfaces, when the interior becomes markedly quieter and more pleasant.

During the installation we also replaced the factory front speakers, which brings a substantial improvement in sound quality at minimal cost. Since the doors are already disassembled and damped, the speaker replacement is quick, efficient and requires no further interventions. We always recommend changing the speakers at this stage because the overall benefit to the sound is significant relative to the investment.
