How to care for polishing pads
- Care for polishing pads is very important for their long life and future polishing performance.
- During work, the temperature of the pad itself is very important, as it can heat up to high temperatures while polishing paint.
- If you sand the paint for an extended period and frequently overheat the pad, you will significantly shorten its lifespan.
- Therefore, monitor the temperature and if the pad is overheated, let it cool down for a while.
- High temperatures damage both the foam and the pad adhesive.
- The polishing pad needs to be cleaned often during the polishing process, otherwise it will stop working effectively and polishing will not be efficient.
- As soon as the pad is clogged with compound, you need to address it.
- You can use a medium-soft brush (e.g. Poka Premium Brush for Details and Pad cleaning - Hard Blue) and set the polisher to a lower speed, run it idle in your hand and brush the old compound out.
- Hold the brush in your hand and let the polisher spin the pad. Be careful not to fling used compound onto the freshly polished paint.
- If you have an air compressor, you can use it to blow the pad clean in the same way while the polisher is running.
- After successful machine polishing, the pad should also be prepared so it can be ideally reused next time.
- We recommend washing the polishing pad in a washing machine at 40 °C using a detergent designed for microfiber. We recommend a high-quality detergent such as Gyeon Q²M TowelWash.
- Never wash pads together with towels or cloths!
- Do not put pads in a dryer after washing; let them air-dry lying on a drying towel with the polishing side facing down.
- If you do not have access to a washing machine, you can wash pads by hand using an APC cleaner (e.g. Gyeon Q²M APC) diluted at a ratio of 1:6.
- Polishing pads should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, ideally in a closed clean plastic box.
