How to care for polishing pads

• Caring for polishing pads is important for their long life and future polishing performance.
• During use the temperature of the pad itself is very important, as it can heat up to high temperatures while polishing paint.
• If you sand the paint for a long time and frequently overheat the pad, you significantly shorten its lifespan.
• Therefore monitor the temperature and if the pad is overheated, let it cool down for a while.
• High temperatures damage both the foam and the pad adhesive.
• The polishing pad needs to be cleaned often during the polishing process, otherwise it will stop working and polishing will not be effective.
• Once the pad is loaded with compound, you need to address it.
• You can take a medium-soft brush (e.g. Poka Premium Brush for Details and Pad cleaning - Hard Blue) and set the polisher to a lower speed, hold it unloaded in your hand and brush out the old compound.
• Hold the brush in your hand and let the polisher spin the pad. Be careful not to fling used compound onto the polished paintwork.
• If you have an air compressor, you can use it in the same way and simply blow the pad out while the polisher is running.
• After a successful machine polishing process the pad should also be prepared so it can ideally be used next time.
• We recommend washing the polishing pad in a washing machine at 40 °C using a detergent intended for microfiber. We recommend using the high-quality detergent Gyeon Q²M TowelWash, which works excellently.
• Never wash pads together with towels or rags!
• After washing, do not put the pads in a tumble dryer; let them air dry placed on a drying towel with the polishing side facing down.
• If you do not have a washing machine, you can wash pads by hand using an APC cleaner (e.g. Gyeon Q²M APC), diluted at a ratio of 1:6.
• Pads should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, ideally in a closed clean plastic box.
