How to care for polishing pads

• Caring for polishing pads is important for their longevity and future polishing performance.
• During use, the pad temperature is critical — pads can heat up to high temperatures while polishing paint.
• If you sand or polish for long periods and frequently overheat the pad, you will significantly shorten its lifespan.
• Monitor the temperature and, if the pad gets too hot, let it cool down for a while.
• High temperatures damage both the foam and the pad adhesive.
• Polishing pads need to be cleaned frequently during the polishing process; otherwise they will clog and polishing will become ineffective.
• Once a pad is clogged with polishing compound, it needs to be cleaned.
• You can use a medium-soft brush (e.g. Poka Premium Brush for Details and Pad cleaning - Hard Blue) and set the polisher to a lower speed, run it idle in your hand and brush the old compound out.
• Hold the brush while letting the polisher spin the pad. Be careful not to fling used compound onto freshly polished paintwork.
• If you have an air compressor, you can similarly blow the pad clean while the polisher is running.
• After finishing machine polishing, the pad should be prepared so it can be ideally reused next time.
• We recommend washing the polishing pad in a washing machine at 40 °C using a detergent suitable for microfiber. A high-quality detergent such as Gyeon Q²M TowelWash works very well.
• Never wash pads together with towels or rags!
• Do not tumble-dry pads after washing; let them air-dry flat on a drying towel with the polishing side facing down.
• If you don't have access to a washing machine, pads can be washed by hand using an all-purpose cleaner diluted about 1:6, for example Gyeon Q²M APC.
• Polishing pads should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, ideally in a closed clean plastic box.
