How to care for polishing pads

• Caring for polishing pads is important for their long service life and future polishing performance.
• Temperature of the pad during use is crucial — pads can heat up to high temperatures while polishing paint.
• If you sand/polish for extended periods and frequently overheat the pad, you will significantly shorten its lifespan.
• Monitor the pad temperature and, if it becomes hot, let it cool down for a while.
• High temperatures damage both the foam and the pad’s adhesive.
• The pad needs to be cleaned frequently during the polishing process; otherwise it will clog and polishing will become ineffective.
• Once the pad is clogged with polishing compound, you should address it immediately.
• You can take a medium-stiff brush (e.g., Poka Premium Brush for Details and Pad cleaning - Hard Blue), set the polisher to low speed, hold it in your hand and brush out the old polish with the brush.
• Hold the brush in your hand and let the polisher spin the pad. Be careful not to fling used compound onto the freshly polished paintwork.
• If you have an air compressor, you can similarly blow out the pad while the polisher is running.
• After successful machine polishing, prepare the pad so it can be used again next time.
• We recommend washing the pad in a washing machine at 40 °C with a detergent suitable for microfiber. We recommend the high-quality detergent Gyeon Q²M TowelWash.
• Never wash pads together with towels or cloths!
• Do not tumble-dry pads after washing; let them air-dry placed on a drying towel with the polishing side down.
• If a washing machine is not available, pads can be washed by hand using an APC cleaner (dilute at a ratio of 1:6), such as Gyeon Q²M APC.
• Pads should be stored in a dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally in a closed, clean plastic box.
