The Nakamichi NDSE500A is an eight-channel digital audio processor with an integrated four-channel Class AB amplifier that combines high power, extensive tuning options and flexible audio system wiring. The built-in amplifier delivers a nominal power of 4 × 100 W RMS at 4 Ω, a peak power of 4 × 125 W and, in bridged mode, up to 2 × 230 W. This enables powering even more demanding component speakers or a subwoofer. The amplifier is intended for speakers with 4 Ω impedance and does not support 2 Ω loads.

For connection to a car radio, the NDSE500A offers four high-level and two low-level RCA inputs. Eight low-level RCA outputs allow the unit to be used as a standalone DSP processor in conjunction with external amplifiers. Built-in and external amplifiers can be combined as needed—for example, using the integrated amplifier to power front component speakers and connecting a separate amplifier for rear speakers or a subwoofer via RCA outputs.

The DSP provides independent tuning of all eight output channels. Available are a 31-band equalizer, active crossovers, time corrections, polarity setting, output level and input signal mixing. High-pass and low-pass filters can be set in the range 20 Hz to 20 kHz with slopes up to 48 dB/oct. and selection of Butterworth, Bessel or Linkwitz-Riley filters. Combining HPF and LPF also enables band-pass filtering. Time corrections offer ranges up to 25 ms or 850 cm with a precision of 0.01 ms. Six separate sound presets can be stored in memory.

The NDSE500A supports Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless music playback and playback of lossless files from USB storage with capacity up to 256 GB. Settings can be adjusted via PC software or the Nakamichi-E mobile app. Support is also provided for the optional Nakamichi AC6 controller with a 2" LCD, volume control and track display. Automatic power-on can be controlled by the high-level input signal or the ACC wire, and a startup delay of up to 10 seconds can be configured.

Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. Since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels in their catalogs for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is unfortunately worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness or undulation of the frequency curve in good speaker systems for high-quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.
