Quartorigo Fantasia Woofer mid-bass drivers

The Quartorigo Fantasia Woofer is a driver that at first glance appears as a precisely engineered technical object with a strong personality. The deep black cone with a pronounced concave profile immediately draws attention and clearly signals that there is no room for compromise. This shape is not merely an aesthetic element but a direct result of acoustic design focused on maximum control, stability and energy in the bass band. The Fantasia Woofer visually and technically represents the philosophy of the Fantasia line – power, focus and absolute control over sound.

The use of a neodymium magnet in a mid-bass driver of this type is rather exceptional and itself indicates the ambitions of this driver. Neodymium provides extremely high magnetic strength in compact dimensions, allowing precise guidance of the voice coil, fast response and exceptional control of the cone even under high load. The result is a bass foundation that is solid, authoritative and at the same time extraordinarily precise. Despite this power, the Fantasia Woofer features a sensitivity of 92 dB, which means it is not demanding on amplifier power. It can deliver full-bodied, dynamic bass performance even with relatively moderate power while retaining a high degree of detail and control. This makes it an ideal choice for both sophisticated active systems and carefully designed passive configurations.

The driver basket was designed with a minimalist approach and maximum emphasis on airflow. The open design significantly improves airflow around the magnetic system and voice coil, reducing turbulence and back pressure that occur during larger cone excursions. More efficient cooling and freer airflow contribute to lower distortion, higher stability under long-term load and overall better performance in low frequencies. The Fantasia Woofer therefore behaves not like a conventional mid-bass driver but rather like a precise tool for shaping the musical foundation. The Quartorigo Fantasia Tweeter is a high-frequency driver that immediately declares the brand's distinct approach. The unconventional construction and bold design are not for their own sake – every detail has a clear technical and acoustic function. The dominant element is a precisely made 25 mm silk dome, chosen for its ability to reproduce high frequencies with exceptional delicacy, naturalness and without any hint of aggressiveness. The typical Quartorigo sonic character remains fully preserved here – faithful, musical and extraordinarily refined.

The tweeter is driven by a neodymium magnet, which enables high efficiency in compact dimensions. This allowed the creation of a design with a minimal footprint without sacrificing demands for dynamics, control and detail. One key constructional element is the expanded dome suspension. A wider tweeter suspension allows greater linear excursion while reducing distortion and providing more efficient heat dissipation. The result is cleaner, more precise and more stable reproduction of high frequencies even at higher listening levels, with excellent transient control and long-term reliability.

Integrated rear chamber. It is cleverly designed to fit into a compact construction while being carefully acoustically tuned. The rear chamber extends the lower frequency range of the tweeter and ensures a more natural linkage to the midrange. Coaxial speakers are characterized by a so-called all-in-one design. The tweeter and mid-bass speaker are in one basket. The advantage is simpler assembly, but thanks to the connection or proximity of the bands in one speaker, the sound quality will usually be reduced. As a rule, in the middle of the mid-bass speaker, there is a tweeter whose voice coil works in the second air gap of the common magnetic circuit. The three-way coaxial speaker consists of a mid-bass speaker, a center speaker and a separate tweeter in the front on a special beam.

Component Speakers:
Component speakers are characterized by a division into individual frequency bands, treble + mid-bass + or. bass band. The individual speakers can be placed completely separately, which results in a better sound and acoustic performance. In the vast majority of cases of component speakers, an external crossover is also supplied, which divides the treble, middle / mid-bass, and into the three-band the bass band or allows setting the decibel level of the tweeter (e.g. +2 dB, 0 dB, -2 dB), steepness (e.g. 6dB/Oct. 12dB/Oct.) or active or bi-amp connection.

Example:

Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We are interested in the course of the radiated sound pressure in this range of frequencies when the loudspeaker system is supplied with constant power. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. The frequency characteristic of a speaker or speaker system can be expressed most succinctly with a graph.

Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. Since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels in their catalogs for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is unfortunately worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness or undulation of the frequency curve in good speaker systems for high-quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.
