Mercedes-Benz V-Class - new sound system (replacement for Burmester audio system)

The Mercedes-Benz V-Class is among the most popular vehicles in its category, whether for family travel or comfortable corporate transport. Yet it can disappoint in one crucial area—its factory sound system. In this case it was an optional Burmester system, which unfortunately did not meet expectations. The sound lacked dynamics, detail, and precision, and the overall listening experience did not deliver what the customer expected. That is why we were asked to perform a complete sound system replacement with a solution fitting the premium class.

Vehicles of this type are a joy to outfit sonically, especially because of the generous space. That allows us to install high-quality analog amplifiers and an external DSP processor, which is always a far better option for the resulting sound quality than using Class D multi-channel amplifiers with integrated DSP. We used that advantage and selected the advanced analog Crescendo amplifier, which delivers highly faithful and musical sound. For speakers we chose the Italian ESB Quattromila series. They stand out primarily for their sound character, which significantly outperforms competitors in their price range, as well as for premium workmanship and technologies used. Under the passenger seat we hid a JL Audio subwoofer, powered by a Morel MPD monoblock.

The entire system is managed by an external Helix DSP processor, which allowed us to fine-tune the sound to the specific interior. Through measurements and calibration we set the optimal sonic characteristics so they matched both the vehicle's space and the customer's wishes. The result is detailed, spacious, and dynamic sound that significantly exceeds the capabilities of the original system and delivers a true hi-fi experience. All while preserving the original interior appearance—the whole installation perfectly hidden. For maximum musical enjoyment we also fully soundproofed the vehicle, but for the purposes of this report we focused solely on the sound system.
