Soundproofing of an Audi RS Q8. Beautiful design, luxurious interior, top equipment with Bang & Olufsen sound system, 23-inch wheels, ceramic brakes, V8 engine, a full 600 hp and 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds. This beast in full trim has almost everything such a car should have, including an aggressive, sporty look. The RS Q8 certainly provokes many controversies—whether it's the point of such an SUV or its price. And we suspect yet another controversy may have started at our workshop. Why soundproof such a car? That is probably the most frequent question on our social networks. We've had the Audi Q8 in the shop before and, in terms of factory sound insulation, they are the same cars. Right away it should be noted that the Q8 is very well soundproofed from the factory, probably the best of all cars we've ever had here. The body includes factory vibration protection and strong noise insulation on the floor and wheel arches that is part of the trim. Still, that factory insulation can only do a fraction of what our soundproofing can, and we are therefore able to reduce ambient road noise even further. If you are interested in the weight of the additional soundproofing, it is about 90 Kg. Is that too much for an engine with 600 horsepower? Let everyone answer that for themselves. Owners of such cars are usually not track racers who obsess over every gram of weight. On the contrary, they simply want the best - top design, which is often combined with the highest possible configuration, a powerful engine and also the highest comfort. That is why it is becoming common for these luxury cars to come to us straight from the production line, as was the case with this vehicle. The warranty on the car remains fully valid after our work. The brief was simple: maximum soundproofing without compromise. We chose premium materials from the Russian manufacturer SGM, with which we soundproofed all essential areas of the car except the roof. We could not soundproof the roof due to the large panoramic roof that this car was equipped with. Specifically, we focused on the front, rear and fifth doors, the floor, the luggage compartment including the rear wheel arches, the hood, the dashboard and the front wheel arches. SGM materials also have thermal insulation properties and the car will now be additionally protected against heat loss. Four of our technicians work on the soundproofing at the same time, and they can complete the installation within one working day. The result of such an installation is a reduction of interior noise, especially from the tires and road surface, but also from aerodynamic and surrounding road noise. According to the owner’s assessment, the change is most noticeable especially at higher speeds above 100 km/h, when nothing prevents you from fully enjoying the brutal engine sound or the Bang & Olufsen audio system.
