In today’s world of car care, few products truly revolutionize established practices. The new Soft99 Glaco QAD, however, is undoubtedly one of them. The Japanese manufacturer has introduced a completely new concept for protecting car windows, which it calls “Coat & Wash”—that is, applying a protective coating directly during a regular car wash. No polishing, no thorough preparation of the glass, and no stress about applying it incorrectly. You simply wash your car and apply the liquid windshield wiper coating at the same time.
The End of Time-Consuming Glass Preparation
Traditional liquid windshield wiper fluids have always required meticulous preparation so that the manufacturer can guarantee their typical properties and long service life. Such preparation involves thorough degreasing, ideally polishing the glass, removing all dirt and old protective coatings, and, of course, subsequently buffing the product. While the result is worth the effort, for the average user this is often a time-consuming process.
At Soft99, they therefore considered a simple question:
“Why should applying a glass protection product be more complicated than washing the car itself?”
The result of several years of development is Q-AD technology, short for Quick Adhesion & Drying. Its chemical composition allows the protective layer to bond quickly even to glass that has simply been washed and is otherwise unprepared. And from a technological standpoint, that’s exceptionally interesting.
What does Q-AD actually mean?
Q-AD technology was developed with several very ambitious goals in mind:
- Application without prior glass preparation.
- Immediate resistance to shampoo and wash mitts.
- Long-lasting performance.
- A pronounced water-repellent effect immediately after rinsing.
- Easy application without streaks or buffing.
In other words—to create liquid windshield wipers that absolutely anyone can use while washing their car as usual.
Glaco QAD is not just another variation on Glaco’s well-known products. With this product, Soft99 is essentially establishing a new category of protective coatings. The Coat & Wash concept is based on maximum simplicity, and applying the protection becomes a natural part of washing the car. No worries about improper polishing, no dried-on streaks, no complicated procedures. This could be a huge game-changer for everyday drivers who want better visibility in the rain but would never invest the time in the traditional application of liquid windshield wipers.
How does the app work in practice?
Glaco QAD is applied to wet glass after you’ve washed the car. No polishing or deep cleaning is necessary. Simply remove coarse dirt with car shampoo. Then, using the felt applicator included in the kit, apply the product to the glass. Thanks to the applicator’s pointed shape, you can easily reach every corner of the windshield. After that, simply let it sit for 1–3 minutes and continue washing the car as usual with car shampoo. Yes, you really do wash the car over the freshly applied coating. And no—it won’t wash off. On the contrary, the washing sponge helps the coating settle evenly. And voilà—the water-repellent effect will be fully visible immediately during the final rinse of the car.
In short:
1. Rinse the car.
2. Apply Glaco QAD to the wet glass using the included applicator.
3. Let it sit for 1 to 3 minutes.
4. Wash the glass with shampoo and continue with your regular wash.
5. Done. After rinsing with water, you can enjoy the “liquid wipers” effect.
Water-repellent effect starting at 45 km/h
The best part is that the water-repellent effect kicks in at speeds of approximately 45 km/h. This is a speed that most products cannot reach even after thorough preparation. Yet, for example, in city traffic, this is a very important factor. On the other hand, it’s fair to point out that the QAD coating’s lifespan is significantly shorter—typically 10 weeks. But is that really a limiting factor when we can easily reapply QAD every time we wash the car? And we should definitely be doing that more often than once every two months.
In practice, this means:
- better visibility in the rain,
- faster water drainage,
- less need to use windshield wipers,
- greater comfort and safety in bad weather,
- lifespan of approximately 10 weeks,
- enough for up to 10 windshields.
Is it really a revolution?
In the detailing world, the word “revolution” is often overused, and most “innovations” tend to be more of an evolution of existing products. With Glaco QAD, however, it’s different.
At Soft99, they didn’t just develop another liquid windshield wiper. They changed the entire way of thinking about applying glass protection. And that is precisely where this product’s greatest strength lies. If the Coat & Wash concept proves itself in long-term use, it could be one of the most significant products in the automotive glass protection segment in recent years.
For the first time in a long while, we have a product that doesn’t just feel like another variation on the familiar Glaco, but a genuine step forward.
