Volkswagen Tiguan R - hi-fi sound system for demanding listeners

The Volkswagen Tiguan R with sharp styling is the most powerful version of the popular SUV from Volkswagen. Under the hood sits a two-liter turbocharged engine with 320 horsepower, complemented by all-wheel drive and a sport exhaust system from Akrapovič, which underscores its dynamic character and clearly shows that even a family SUV can deliver strong emotions. Emotions also go hand in hand with high-quality music, and our client, whose expectations for sound quality approached audiophile standards, knew that well.

The goal was to build a system with the highest fidelity possible within the budget while preserving the interior design. The choice fell on Morel Hybrid 62 component speakers, which represent the traditional sound of this Israeli manufacturer. Thanks to tweeters with typically accurate and detailed sound, paired with powerful and transparent midwoofers, they form an advanced system that ranks among the best you can install in a car in this class. The speakers are powered by an analog Crescendo class-AB amplifier, which is known for its musical and natural sound, typical for this amplifier topology. A Crescendo monoblock was used to power the subwoofer, providing it with sufficient power and maximum control. The subwoofer of the same brand belongs to the sound quality category – it is precise and fast, ideal for clean and rhythmically tight reproduction of low frequencies.

The brain of the system is an external digital Helix Pro-series processor, whose advanced architecture and high-quality internal components enable significantly better sound than the integrated DSPs in amplifiers. Besides the head unit, the Audison B-Con module served as a source, allowing wireless high-resolution playback, including Hi-Res formats. This enables the customer to listen to studio-quality recordings directly from a mobile device. The installation of course used quality OFC cabling, which ensures maximum conductivity and long-term system stability.

The result is an installation that does not disrupt the interior appearance but elevates the listening experience to a whole new level.  At the end we measured the frequency response of all speakers using professional equipment and fine-tuned the frequency characteristics of the system by equalization precisely to the specific interior. Thanks to this the resulting sound is perfectly balanced, detailed, spacious and dynamically excellent, exactly according to the customer’s demanding requirements. For the ultimate musical experience we also fully soundproofed the car, but for the purposes of this report we focused only on the audio system.
