Steering wheel button control adapter for Subaru ACV SWC 42XSU003-0

Retain the original steering wheel radio control functions when replacing the factory radio with an aftermarket unit. Depending on vehicle equipment, available functions and the software of the newly installed head unit, some functions may be limited or replaced by others. Compare the shown wiring connectors with the connectors in your vehicle and ensure they match both technically and visually. Check whether one of the listed OEM head units was originally installed. Before final installation, verify vehicle functionality, system settings and correct operation of the steering wheel control (SWC).

Designed for vehicles

• Subaru Forester III (SH) (03/2008 -> 03/2011) - original OEM head unit.
• Subaru Impreza III (GH) (09/2007 -> 10/2011) - original OEM head unit.
• Subaru Impreza WRX (GH) (02/2008 -> 04/2014) - original OEM head unit.

CAN Bus information

Connectors and power:

• Connectors: 14-pin / 24-pin Subaru.
• OEM steering wheel control connection: 3.5 mm jack or spare wire to the SWC input of the head unit.
• OEM AV connection: RCA male (yellow/red/white).

Settings:

• Set DIP switches according to the aftermarket unit manufacturer (see BDA).

Vehicle compatibility:

• Analog steering wheel control (SWC).

Special cases and warnings:

• Vehicles with OEM navigation system (Sat Nav) or OEM audio upgrade.
• Reimported vehicles or vehicles with different software may have limited functionality.

Important additional information

• Compatible with aftermarket head units that have an analog steering wheel control input.
• To fully activate the adapter it is necessary to order the connecting cable for the specific head unit brand.

General installation instructions

Checks before installation:

1. Check all steering wheel control functions and vehicle settings with the original OEM head unit installed.
2. Disconnect the original radio (OEM HU) with power off.
3. Check all interface connections to ensure they are correctly connected – with power off.

Connection and wiring sequence:

1. Set and verify the hardware configuration of the interface – with power off.
2. Check the configuration of the cable to the head unit (HU) – with power off.
3. Connect the cable to the head unit according to the aftermarket device manual.
4. Connect the remaining wires according to the device manual.
5. Connect the entire installation to the vehicle – attach the main power connection last.
6. Perform the software configuration of the interface according to the product description or manual.
7. Configure the aftermarket head unit (steering wheel control, camera, handsfree, antenna power, etc.).
8. Perform a functional test of the steering wheel control and communication with the vehicle.

Changing interface and HU cable configuration:

• Make all changes with power off.
• After changes, repeat steps 5 to 8 listed above.

In case of interface or vehicle system failure:

• Reinstall the original OEM head unit.
• Start the original unit.
• Invoke CAN Bus system shutdown.
• Check the hardware configuration of the interface.
• After CAN Bus shutdown, repeat steps 5 and 6 listed above.

When modifying wiring or cable routing:

• Wiring and modifications may only be performed by trained personnel.
• All changes must be verified for manufacturer approval or impact on the vehicle warranty before connection.
