Bass recovery feature

This is because car manufacturers actively equalize the factory audio system to protect the factory subwoofer from damage at high volumes. Even if you add new amplifiers and speakers, the factory head unit will still attenuate bass frequencies when you raise the volume. One way to avoid bass loss is to keep the head unit’s volume low and increase the amplifier gain so the head unit doesn’t “know” how loud the system is. Unfortunately, that approach wrecks the sound.
