The Blaupunkt DAB'N'PLAY 550 is a practical DAB/DAB+ adapter that makes it easy to add digital radio to almost any original or aftermarket car radio without replacing it. The system consists of a compact receiver unit and a separate wireless controller with a display. Audio is transmitted to the existing car radio via the integrated FM transmitter or using a 3.5 mm AUX cable.
In addition to DAB+ reception it also offers Bluetooth audio streaming and handsfree calling via an external microphone. Thanks to this, even older car radios can be significantly upgraded with modern functions without extensive dashboard or wiring interventions.
Easy upgrade of your existing car radio to DAB+
The Blaupunkt DAB'N'PLAY 550 is mainly suited for vehicles that have an intact original radio without a digital DAB+ tuner. There is no need to change the whole radio – simply add the adapter to the existing unit. The receiving Black Box can be discreetly placed, for example, behind the radio or inside the glove compartment. Sound can be transmitted to the radio via the FM transmitter or directly via AUX input if the original radio offers it.
Wireless controller with display
The separate control panel communicates wirelessly with the receiver unit and is powered by two AAA batteries. This eliminates the need for additional power cabling to the controller and allows it to be positioned within the driver’s reach. The controller can be used to select radio stations, switch adapter functions and also to answer or end phone calls. Four buttons are available for quick selection of favorite stations.
DAB+ with Service Following
The digital tuner operates in the 174 to 240 MHz frequency range and offers the Service Following function, which automatically switches to a more suitable transmitter for the same radio station while driving. The driver therefore does not need to manually search for the next frequency when moving between regions. The adapter allows storing up to 15 DAB+ stations, with four favorite stations accessible directly from dedicated buttons on the controller. Traffic information is also supported.
Bluetooth streaming and handsfree
The DAB'N'PLAY 550 also expands the original radio with wireless music playback from a smartphone via Bluetooth and the A2DP profile. The system includes an external microphone for handsfree calls. Incoming calls can be answered and ended directly from the controller button, so there is no need to handle the mobile phone.
Two power options
The receiver unit operates at 5 V DC and consumes only 1 W. Power can be supplied via the included adapter from the vehicle’s 12V supply or via the cigarette lighter adapter. Both options are included in the package.
