Blaupunkt DAB'N'PLAY 550 is a practical DAB/DAB+ adapter that makes it easy to add digital radio to almost any original or aftermarket car radio without replacing it. The system consists of a compact receiver unit and a separate wireless controller with a display. Audio is transmitted to the existing car radio via the integrated FM transmitter or using a 3.5 mm AUX cable.
In addition to DAB+ reception, it also provides Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free calling via an external microphone. This allows even older car radios to gain modern features without complex interventions in the dashboard or wiring.
Easy upgrade of your existing car radio to DAB+
Blaupunkt DAB'N'PLAY 550 is especially suitable for vehicles that have an intact original radio without a DAB+ tuner. There is no need to replace the entire radio — simply add the adapter to the existing unit. The Black Box receiver can be discreetly placed, for example behind the radio or in the passenger glovebox. Audio can be sent to the car radio using the FM transmitter or directly via the AUX input, if the original radio offers one.
Wireless controller with display
The separate control panel communicates wirelessly with the receiver unit and is powered by two AAA batteries. This eliminates the need to run additional power cabling to the controller and allows it to be placed within the driver's reach. The controller lets you select radio stations, switch adapter functions, and accept or end phone calls. Four buttons are provided for quick access to favorite stations.
DAB+ with Service Following
The digital tuner operates in the 174–240 MHz frequency range and features Service Following, which automatically switches to a more suitable transmitter of the same radio station while driving. The driver therefore does not need to manually search for another frequency when moving between areas. The adapter can store up to 15 DAB+ stations, and four favorite stations can be recalled directly via dedicated buttons on the control panel. Traffic announcements are also supported.
Bluetooth streaming and hands-free
DAB'N'PLAY 550 also extends the original radio with wireless music playback from a smartphone via Bluetooth using the A2DP profile. The system includes an external microphone for hands-free calls. Incoming calls can be answered and ended directly with a button on the controller, so there is no need to handle the mobile phone.
Two power options
The receiver unit operates on 5 V DC and consumes only 1 W. Power can be supplied via the included adapter from the vehicle's 12V system or using the included cigarette-lighter socket adapter. Both options are included in the package.
