Soundproofing pillars, thresholds, reinforcements, and cavities? Comfortmat Soundtrap is the solution.

When it comes to soundproofing a car, most attention is paid to classic surfaces – doors, floor, wheel arches, and roof. However, a considerable amount of noise also penetrates through body cavities such as A/B/C/D pillars, sills, rear fenders, and various technical pockets and reinforcements. It is precisely these completely unprotected areas that cannot be treated with conventional anti-vibration or acoustic materials due to their irregular shape, complex installation, or risk of condensation. This is where Comfortmat Soundtrap comes in.

Why are conventional materials not sufficient?

The main problem with body cavities is the acoustic resonance that occurs while driving. The empty space in the metal structure often acts as a sound chamber, significantly increasing airborne noise. However, it is not possible to use conventional anti-vibration or sound-insulating materials in most body cavities. This is partly due to limited access, but mainly because of the irregular shape of these spaces. At the same time, these are often areas with increased humidity, where conventional materials without waterproofing lose their properties or are at risk of degradation.

Comfortmat Soundtrap – specialist in silent cavities

Comfortmat Soundtrap is an acoustic block developed specifically for cavities in car bodies, which it fills with maximum efficiency. It is a soft material made of viscoelastic polyurethane foam with an open microporous structure and a significant memory effect. The block can be compressed and inserted into the cavity, where it quickly expands to its original shape and fills the entire space. One side is covered with a waterproof film, so it can be safely applied even to damp parts of the car body. Thanks to its open cells, it absorbs sound even at low frequencies and at the same time prevents the spread of resonance in cavities. Its density of 54.5 kg/m³ makes it one of the most effective materials of its kind in automotive applications.

Key advantages in practice

  • Elimination of noise from body cavities – including low-frequency humming and resonance.
  • Increased mechanical rigidity of the car body – filling the cavities dampens internal vibrations of the reinforcements.
  • Partial resistance (on one side of the block) to moisture and aging.
  • Quick and easy application without the need for adhesives.
  • Compatibility with professional soundproofing of other parts of the car.

How and where Soundtrap is used

Working with Comfortmat Soundtrap is very easy. Thanks to its softness and memory effect, it can be compressed to many times its size and inserted into virtually any cavity in the car body. Thanks to its self-supporting structure, no glue or fasteners are required – the material holds itself in place under pressure. Soundtrap is most often inserted into:
  • A, B, C, and D pillars (through technical openings).
  • Sills (from technical openings from below).
  • Rear fenders and fender reinforcements.
  • Hollow reinforcements in the rear seat and trunk areas.
  • Less accessible technical pockets and reinforcing partitions.

Technical parameters that speak for themselves

  • Block dimensions: 495 × 195 × 95 mm.
  • Density: 54.5 kg/m³.
  • Weight of 1 piece: 0.5 kg.
  • Material: Viscoelastic PU foam with open cell structure.
  • Waterproof side: Yes.
  • Temperature resistance: -45 °C to +100 °C.

Summary: a small detail with a big impact

Comfortmat Soundtrap is often overlooked, but it plays an important role in comprehensive car soundproofing. It can eliminate humming and resonance from places that are almost impossible to solve using conventional methods. If you are looking for maximum sound comfort, filling cavities with Soundtrap is the optimal solution for achieving complete acoustic insulation of your car.
