FIDELA FDSK730A is a powerful Hi-Res DSP processor with ten input and twelve output channels, complemented by an integrated ten-channel amplifier. Compared to the FDSK630A model it offers two additional input, output and amplified channels, making it suitable for larger active audio systems with tweeters, midrange and midbass speakers, a center channel, rear speakers and a subwoofer. For connecting a signal source it provides ten high-level inputs, two low-level RCA inputs and digital optical and coaxial inputs.

The integrated ten-channel amplifier offers a nominal output of 4 × 25 W + 4 × 50 W + 2 × 100 W. The 25 W channels are especially suitable for tweeters or less demanding auxiliary channels, while the four 50 W channels can be used for midrange, rear speakers or less demanding midbasses. The pair of most powerful channels provides 2 × 100 W and can be bridged to 1 × 200 W for direct subwoofer power. Twelve independently adjustable RCA outputs also allow connection of external amplifiers or using the unit as a standalone DSP processor.

The DSP offers individual adjustment of all twelve output channels via a 31-band equalizer, active crossovers, time corrections, polarity, signal level and input channel mixing. High-pass and low-pass filters allow selection of Butterworth, Bessel or Linkwitz-Riley filters with slopes up to 48 dB/oct. By combining both filters a band-pass filter can also be created. Time corrections offer a range up to 25 ms or 850 cm with an accuracy of 0.01 ms. Individual sensitivity adjustment of high-level inputs and saving of sound presets are also available.

Music can be played via built-in Bluetooth 5.1, USB storage or digitally from a mobile phone via USB OTG. The optional external Bluetooth module FIDELA FDS05B adds higher-quality wireless transmission with aptX HD and LDAC codecs. The processor can be configured via computer software or the Nakamichi FDSK mobile app. An optional Nakamichi AC6 controller with a 2" display, master and subwoofer volume control, preset selection and playback control is also supported. The FDSK730A also supports steering wheel control buttons and automatic mute or volume reduction when reverse gear is engaged. Power-on can be controlled by the signal from the first two high-level inputs or the ACC wire and the REM output is used to switch external amplifiers.

Integrated 12-channel DSP processor

Inside the unit you will find quality components such as WIMA and ELNA capacitors, OPA1678 operational amplifiers and Toshiba chips operating in class AB. The DSP processor is built on the AK7735 chip from Asahi Kasei and high-quality PCM3168 circuits provide digital-to-analog conversion. The DSP offers a 31-band equalizer for each channel with 1 Hz resolution, time delay capability up to 25 ms, phase control and a choice of professional crossover types such as Butterworth, Bessel or Linkwitz-Riley. The output signal is fully tunable including gain and Q value settings. A stable and comprehensive PC tuning software and an intuitive mobile app for phone-based configuration are standard. Thanks to low distortion (≤0.05 %) and high signal-to-noise ratio (≥98 dB) the resulting sound is precise and faithful, suitable even for demanding installations.

About the brand 

The history of the Nakamichi brand goes back to 1948, when it was founded in Japan by Etsuro Nakamichi. Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We are interested in the course of the radiated sound pressure in this range of frequencies when the loudspeaker system is supplied with constant power. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. The frequency characteristic of a speaker or speaker system can be expressed most succinctly with a graph.

Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. Since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels in their catalogs for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is unfortunately worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness or undulation of the frequency curve in good speaker systems for high-quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.

Harmonic Distortion (THD)Total harmonic distortion indicates how much the input signal is distorted in the amplifier. Distortions appear as overtones contained in the output signal. The proportion of originally absent parts of the signal is given as a percentage, typical values are between 0.001% and 0.5%.

Distortion is measured in their power band. If it exceeds the limit of 0.7% from a certain power, it is the value of the output power of the given amplifier, from which it no longer plays without distortion and from which the distortion usually increases steeply, so that no further increase in power can be counted on. The lower the value, the better.

Signal-to-noise ratioThe signal-to-noise ratio means that the output signal always contains noise. The signal-to-noise ratio expresses how much of this noise is compared to the useful signal. The so-called A value is given, which does not take deep and very high frequencies into account.
