Amplifier with DSP Processor Musway M4+v3

Musway M4+ is a compact 4-channel amplifier with an integrated DSP processor, structurally derived from the multiple-award-winning M6 v4 model (including the prestigious EISA award), but offered in a four-channel configuration. It retains the same philosophy, technology and build quality while providing higher per-channel power and a more compact solution for simpler systems. It combines a powerful class D amplifier with an advanced 8-channel DSP, enabling not only a significant sound improvement over the factory setup but also complete control over the final reproduction. The M4+ delivers enough power to drive speakers while also providing processed outputs to expand the system with additional amplifiers, for example for a subwoofer or rear channels. It is available in two versions – a standard version with an MX-Connect™ harness terminated with an ISO connector for easy Plug&Play installation and an EVO version with free leads for custom wiring. Seamless integration into modern vehicles including start-stop systems, high-level inputs with EPS® and IFT technology for interference minimization are standard. The result is a solution that combines easy installation, high power and advanced tuning options in a single device.

Powerful amplifier with integrated DSP

The M4+ pairs a 4-channel amplifier with an 8-channel DSP, making it not only a power stage but a full-featured control center for the system. The amplifier delivers 4 × 100 W RMS at 4 Ω and up to 4 × 135 W RMS at 2 Ω, or 2 × 270 W RMS bridged. The DSP section enables signal processing for additional amplifiers via four processed RCA outputs, significantly expanding future upgrade possibilities. Despite its high power, the amplifier maintains compact dimensions, allowing installation even in confined spaces. The brushed aluminum chassis ensures efficient heat dissipation and high mechanical durability. The design is rounded off by a recessed glass logo with backlighting and precisely machined aluminum side panels, underscoring Musway's attention to detail and build quality.

Advanced DSP tuning and full control over the sound

At the heart of the amplifier is a powerful 32-bit DSP processor from Analog Devices combined with high-quality Burr-Brown converters, enabling detailed and precise system tuning. The current generation uses 512k Bit DSP technology with the new Tunest software, which brings expanded tuning options and a clearer interface. A fully parametric 31-band equalizer is available for each channel, active crossovers with slopes up to 48 dB/oct., time alignment in fine increments and precise signal level control. Fully configurable input and output routing allows both simple system upgrades and fully active setups with maximum control over every speaker.

Control and expandability

The M4+ supports a wide range of accessories that extend both control and system functionality. Bluetooth modules are available for wireless music streaming, in both a standard version and a variant with aptX HD support for high-resolution streaming. The Bluetooth module also serves for complete DSP configuration via a mobile app or PC software. For in-drive control Musway offers two remote control options. In addition to a classic remote for basic functions, there is the exclusive myCON controller, awarded the prestigious EISA prize. It enables advanced control of DSP functions via an AMOLED display, profile switching, source selection, on-the-fly sound control from the driver's seat and music file playback.

Ready for modern vehicles and advanced integration

The amplifier is equipped with a wide range of inputs including low-level RCA, high-level inputs (up to 6 channels), AUX and an optical digital input, allowing integration into virtually any vehicle or audio system. Auto Turn-On on signal detection means the amplifier can be used in modern cars without a classic REM signal. The EPS® protection system eliminates error messages from factory radios and ensures trouble-free operation, while the high-level mixing function preserves important system sounds such as parking sensors or navigation prompts. IFT (Interference Free Technology) minimizes electromagnetic interference and helps maintain clear radio reception. The amplifier's design is also fully prepared for vehicles equipped with start-stop systems.

Awards in expert tests

Musway amplifiers consistently receive very positive reviews in expert magazine tests, and the M4+ is no exception. In a test by the German magazine Car&Hifi it received an overall score of 1.4 in the Absolute Spitzenklasse (absolute top class) category. The test praised the combination of high power, compact dimensions and advanced DSP functions, which make it an exceptionally versatile solution for a wide range of installations. The easy vehicle integration, wide connectivity including a digital input, and the possibility to expand the system with additional amplifiers via the processed outputs were also praised. The amplifier also received the EMV-Tipp award for very low electromagnetic interference, which ensures trouble-free operation in modern vehicles and preserves clear radio reception. Overall, the M4+ was rated as an outstanding DSP amplifier with an excellent balance of power, functionality and price.

Energy class of the amplifierAmplifiers are divided into two basic classes: analog and digital . Analog amplifiers (A/B) have higher consumption requirements, but usually have a more natural sound. Digital amplifiers (D) have significantly lower consumption and higher efficiency, but the sound may not be as faithful as with classic analog amplifiers. D
Number of amplifier channelsAmplifiers are divided into:
- Monoblocks
- 2-channel
- 3-channel
- 4-channel
- 5-channel
- 6-channel
- multi-channel

Each channel is used to power one speaker for the coaxial type, or one side if they are component speakers.

Monoblock type amplifiers are mainly used for subwoofers.

2-channel are suitable for both subwoofers and, for example, the front pair of speakers in a car.

3-channel is used for front or rear speakers + subwoofer.

4-channel are used for front + rear speakers or 1 pair of speakers + subwoofer.

6 or 5-channel are used for 2 pairs of speakers + subwoofer, most often.

Bridging means connecting the amplifier to a bridge, using the + pole from one channel and the - pole from the other channel. In most cases this is shown as "BRIDGED" on the amplifier.

Frequency rangeThe ability of the amplifier to reproduce the signal from the lowest frequency to the highest = faithfully reproduce the sound in a specific frequency band.

Professionally:
In the frequency range from 40 to 16,000 Hz, the vast majority of fundamental and overtones (harmonics) of all musical instruments are found. We are interested in the course of the radiated sound pressure in this range of frequencies when the loudspeaker system is supplied with constant power. We call this course the frequency characteristic, which tells us the level of radiated sound pressure in decibels (dB) depending on the frequency. The frequency characteristic of a speaker or speaker system can be expressed most succinctly with a graph.

Mostly, however, the frequency characteristic is indicated by indicating the maximum tolerance of the sound pressure in the given frequency range, e.g. 50 to 15,000 Hz -+ 6 dB. Since the frequency characteristics of loudspeakers and systems in general are quite uneven, some manufacturers do not even specify this maximum tolerance of sound pressure in decibels in their catalogs for reasons of prestige. Data impoverished in this way is unfortunately worthless. What is valid is that the manufacturer offers a speaker system with a frequency range of 30 to 20,000 Hz, if he is worried about stating the maximum unevenness of the sound pressure in this range, because he can have a tolerance of, for example, +- 20 dB.

The unevenness or undulation of the frequency curve in good speaker systems for high-quality music performance should not exceed +-3 dB in the 80 to 12,000 Hz band and +-6 dB in the 40 to 16,000 Hz band. Greater unevenness already depletes or emphasizes certain tonal areas, which can cause audible or even disturbing distortion. The proportion between fundamental tones and higher harmonics also changes, thereby changing the color of the sound, and individual musical instruments as well as the entire musical image sound unnatural.
15 – 22000 Hz
Harmonic Distortion (THD)Total harmonic distortion indicates how much the input signal is distorted in the amplifier. Distortions appear as overtones contained in the output signal. The proportion of originally absent parts of the signal is given as a percentage, typical values are between 0.001% and 0.5%.

Distortion is measured in their power band. If it exceeds the limit of 0.7% from a certain power, it is the value of the output power of the given amplifier, from which it no longer plays without distortion and from which the distortion usually increases steeply, so that no further increase in power can be counted on. The lower the value, the better.
0.05%
Signal-to-noise ratioThe signal-to-noise ratio means that the output signal always contains noise. The signal-to-noise ratio expresses how much of this noise is compared to the useful signal. The so-called A value is given, which does not take deep and very high frequencies into account. This corresponds to the characteristic of human hearing, which is not so sensitive to deep frequencies, especially below 1 kHz. The higher the value, the better the amplifier is. 95 dB
Inputs6 x RCA, 6 x high-level, AUX, SPDIF
Outputs4 x RCA, 4 x speaker-level
Input sensitivityIn order for the amplifier to perform its function correctly, it requires an input signal of a certain level, which is different for car radios. It is measured in "Volts" (e.g. 2 V, 4 V, etc.) The higher the value at the output of the pre-amplifier, or car radio, the less demands are placed on the power of the amplifier. However, the amplifier must allow this input sensitivity, and for that reason this value is also given for the amplifier. High-level: 8 V – 24 V, RCA: 1.5 V – 4.5 V
Input impedance13 Ω (High-level), 47 kΩ (RCA)
Bass boostBass boost or bass enhancement. With this function, the bass itself can be emphasized, at a high level of bass boost, the speakers and the subwoofer can distort a lot and the sound will be worse than better. We therefore recommend using the "bass boost" function wisely. With maximum use of bass boost, there is a risk of damage to the speakers and thus to the subwoofer. 0 – 12 dB @ 45 Hz
Damping factorDF - Damping Factor . It is the ratio of the load (repro + cables, crossover, etc.) to the internal resistance of the amplifier. The bigger the DF, the more controlled the bass. Amplifiers with a lower DF tend to hum. Subwoofers with a higher Q in the bass reflex and sometimes in the enclosure will also cause humming. > 70
Phase shiftPhase shift is a linear electronic oscillator that produces a sinusoidal output. It consists of an inverting part of the amplifier such as a transistor. The feedback network "shifts" the phase at the output of the amplifier by 180 degrees to the oscillation frequency and gives positive feedback. The Phase shift filter produces a phase shift that increases with increasing frequency.

This is usually used when the subwoofer sub-assembly is out with the magnet, or when two amplifiers are connected externally. Phase Shift is also used with active speaker wiring, where the time shift of the speakers is set. The point is that the subwoofer does not play the bass late, and for this reason better amplifiers offer this phase reversal option.
