How to care for polishing pads
- Care for polishing pads is important for their long life and future polishing performance.
- During use, the temperature of the pad itself is crucial for its lifespan, as the pad can heat up to high temperatures while polishing.
- If you sand the paint for a long time and frequently overheat the pad, you significantly shorten its life.
- Therefore, monitor the temperature and if the pad is overheated, let it cool down for a while.
- High temperatures damage both the foam and the pad's adhesive.
- The polishing pad needs to be cleaned often during the polishing process, otherwise it will stop working and polishing will not be effective.
- As soon as the polishing pad is clogged with compound, you need to address it.
- You can use a medium-stiff brush (e.g. Poka Premium Brush for Details and Pad cleaning - Hard Blue) and set the polisher to low speed, hold it idling in your hand and brush the old compound out of the pad.
- Hold the brush in your hand and let the polisher spin the pad. Be careful not to fling used compound onto freshly polished paint.
- If you have an air compressor, you can use it the same way—blow out the pad while the polisher is running.
- After a successful machine polishing session, the pad should be prepared for next use.
- We recommend washing the polishing pad in a washing machine at 40 °C using a detergent intended for microfiber. We recommend the high-quality detergent Gyeon Q²M TowelWash, which works excellently.
- Never wash pads together with towels or cloths!
- Do not put pads in a tumble dryer after washing; let them dry naturally laid on a drying towel with the polishing side down.
- If you don't have access to a washing machine, you can wash the pads by hand using a dedicated pad cleaner ADBL Pad Cleaner.
- Polishing pads should be stored in a dry place out of direct sunlight, ideally in a closed clean plastic box.
