Cleaning and maintenance of rubber car mats
Cleanliness in the car is not only aesthetically pleasing but also safer. Dust and coarse dirt that accumulate on the mat over time cause dust to circulate in the interior, which you breathe in (foot movement while driving stirs up dust). Worse, an increasing amount of coarse dirt increases the risk of shoe slippage, especially with wet footwear. Therefore, we recommend cleaning rubber car mats at least once a month, or more often if you drive daily. Here is a simple procedure to follow.- First, vacuum the mats thoroughly. (Either in the car or outside.)
- Alternatively, shake out dirt from the mats outside in a suitable place.
- Also vacuum the vehicle floor after removing the mats.
- Place the mats outside on a clean surface or hang them on a wall or dedicated spot.
- It is desirable that the underside of the rubber mat stays clean.
- Then spray an all-purpose cleaner, e.g. Dodo Juice Total Wipe Out All Purpose Cleaner, gradually onto all mats and let it act for 1 to 2 minutes.
- If the mats are heavily soiled, use a brush, e.g. ADBL Ther Brush.
- Ideally, rinse the dirt off with a pressure washer and let the mats dry naturally.
- If pressure washing is not possible, use a microfiber towel with long fibers and wipe off the cleaner gradually.
- Once clean and dry, return the rubber mats to the car.
